DEMISE OF PURBECK COAST RADIO
It is unbelievably sad that after all the hard work Michelle Langthorne, the DJs and presenters have put into making it work, PCFM departed the airwaves on 15 February 2024 owing to lack of funds and imagination.
But now Purbeck Sounds, based in the Heart of Swanage, is fully up and running.
'In Conversation' - Ethel Gwendoline Hoare 1892 - 1982
I am the third generation of a showbiz family; my grandfather William was in ‘Fred Karno’s Army’ and understudied Charlie Chaplin in the UK and the USA, grandma Ethel became part of it too. Later William became a trick cyclist then formed The Willenors who appeared in the 1933 Royal Variety Show at the London Palladium in front of King George V.
My father, George Hoare, was Manager of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for 24 years and I was an ATV Elstree cameraman working for Lew Grade on productions like ‘This is Tom Jones’, ‘Julie Andrews Show’, ‘The Muppet Show’ etc. I then went to Central TV Nottingham as a Lighting Director working on shows like ‘The 19th Hole’, ‘The Price Is Right’, ‘The Upper Hand and ‘Album’.

Do you remember Billy “Wakey Wakey!” Cotton?
Or Sir Bill Cotton, Managing Director of BBC Television?
Listen to Jeremy Hoare talking to Jane Cotton about her grandfather and father.
Jane and her sister were the inspiration for ‘Top Of The Pops’ and her father Bill put together the ‘Monty Python’ team, not only those but also some of the greatest shows in British television history.
This show was broadcast on Purbeck Coast 101.2 FM on Sunday 19 February.

2022 - TRAVELLING MAN
During 2022 I made 26 one hour shows which focus on the music from different countries I have been to. Largely because of my work as a Travel Photographer but some just for pleasure.
Around 40 countries are featured in the 26 shows and as I consider music to be an international language, songs are sung in the countries’ own.
Broadcast originally on Purbeck Coast 101.2 FM, they are now being aired on Basingstoke Community Radio on the second Sunday of each month at 4pm GMT.
2021 - MUSIC IN MY LIFE
The ‘Music in My Life’ show is just that, from early things I heard to buying my first record and all the things up until today.

MY FAIR LADY
The My Fair Lady opening night on 30 April 1956, Royal visits a few days later by The Queen, Princess Margaret and Winston Churchill, all welcomed by my father, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane manager, George Hoare.
This film was shot on 8mm and is now in a film library. The other week I saw some clips from it in a Julie Andrews programme, it was also in another about Andrew Lloyd Webber.
